Tutorials

Academic tutors

From enrolment onwards, a personal academic tutor is available to students by appointment.

This teacher/tutor will monitor each student personally during the whole course.

Electronic tutorials

Electronic mail and other services (Cesar UAB) are available to students to facilitate communication with their teachers (consultation, suggestions and other initiatives).

Tutorials within the professional programme

During the first semester, second year students should hold an interview with a member of the professional programme: the programme head or a professional programme tutor.

Professional programme tutorials are obligatory and a prerequisite for students to do any practical training included in the study programme: Practicum 1 and 2.

During the first term of the corresponding academic year, Professional Programme Department Heads will set out and publish an interview schedule. At this personal interview students must hand over a CV with a recent "DNI" photo attached and the "Qüestionari consultor" document. Both forms can be obtained at the secretary's office once the interview schedule has been established.

Professional Programme heads have an hour available to attend students regarding all matters related to practical training. Students can consult the timetable at the secretary's office or on the Professional Programme notice board

Professional Programme

The professional programme requires the application of considerable academic expertise in order to personalise the orientation of each student's career. It also entails a follow-up on an individual basis with the aim of enhancing students' professional profiles and monitoring their outlook and aptitude. This follow-up, which is sustained throughout the course, seeks to match students' academic progress with their personal interests. This enables students to make effective use of their work, by concentrating on creating an integrated curricular profile. Personal tutorials and the Professional Programme are complementary.

This professional programme is one of the key points that contribute to the uniqueness of our courses. Its methodological base is grounded in the concept of the dual tutorial: the professional tutorial and the academic/personal tutorial. Two records are then kept: an academic record and a professional record, which serve to provide students with personal career guidance throughout the course.

The Professional Programme complements our school's special concept of education and teaching in that it brings real knowledge to the Diploma in Tourism and Diploma in Hotel Management programmes.

Besides, it implements a strategy at university standard with the aim of facilitating students' entry on to the labour market based on the definition and concept of practical training as a cognitive area of real learning in which the interdisciplinary expertise acquired during the study programme is put into practice.

Students need to make contact with professional reality by means of a practical training programme that has been planned rigorously and systematically and learn by departmental and functional rotation This will take place in the tourism sector and its subsectors' business and institutional environment.

The information that the University School of Tourism and Hotel Management possesses about students' profiles and their developmental potential through the Professional Programme and the dual tutorial (academic and professional) is fundamental for us to be able to provide them with career guidance from a clear starting point based on consultative support. Consequently, the unique function of our jobshop as a professional service for the different tourism subsectors' companies and institutions will hold high strategic importance for our school. The institutionalisation of the Professional Programme as a programmatic priority responds to the needs of both the tourism industry and the tertiary sector.
