The aims of the Resource Centre (RC) are:

Reference

In principle, all book and documentary resource catalogues have been computerised and may be consulted.

Access to the RC is limited. Its regulations are similar to those of this centre's computer rooms. In general, students of this centre as well as UAB students are entitled to use the RC. The same rules apply to teaching staff.

Searches can be made in two ways: by direct access to the RC or by using the electronic search catalogues, via the computers and terminals in the reading room or any other of the centre's PCs.

Borrowing

Borrowing facilities are confined to books. Periodical publications, journals, statistical information and manuals are for reference only. All other graphic material (handbooks and other educational material) may only be photocopied, given that they are internal documents or difficult to replace. Information in other formats may only be consulted in the rooms assigned for this purpose.

Users are required to show their UAB student identification card.

Borrowing regulations are the same as the UAB's.

Students may borrow up to three books for fourteen days. Renewals may be made.

Teachers may borrow up to five books at a time during the academic year, in a renewable period of fourteen days.

Books can be renewed if they are not requested by another user.

Weekend loan periods commence at 17:00 on Thursdays and end at 10:00 on Mondays.

Fines and sanctions for overdue books are: temporary withdrawal of RC access and 300 pesetas per day (maximum 1,500 pesetas).

If books are lost or go missing, users are required to replace them with an identical copy or pay double their replacement charge.

Other measures may be taken if deemed appropriate.

Inter-library loans

This facility enables users to obtain documents which are unavailable at UAB libraries and provides an extension to the library service. This centre's staff can give advice on procedure and relevant costs.

Catalogues

The RC facilitates access to its own resources as well as to all UAB library material. Besides, access is available to the following university libraries: Politècnica de Catalunya, Pompeu Fabra, Girona, Rovira i Virgili, Jaume I (Castelló), Xarxa de Biblioteques Populars de la Diputació de Barcelona, Institut del Teatre i Consell Consultiu de la Generalitat de Catalunya. Our computing infrastructure and telematic environment provides this facility.

Cataloguing

The library collection belongs to the centre and is present at EUTDH and its facilities, mainly in those areas allocated for the resource centre. They are available for consultation by the rest of the UAB community. The centre's collection is part of the UAB library service.

Library facilities

At the RC there are three HP-Vectra PCs connected to the web, the SILTU system and a printer. The SILTU terminals enable users to search the centre's resources, as well as the UAB and the World Wide Web. Audiovisual material such as video recorders, televisions and cassette players are also available.

  • Other UAB users: UAB users and teaching staff.
  • External users: users who are not part of the UAB educational community. These users have restricted access.

Students and teaching staff from our centre and the UAB always have preference over external users.
