International Relations

The International Relations Department seeks to establish professional and academic contacts with overseas institutions, with a view to adding value to the Tourism and Hotel Management programmes imparted at our school.

Our centre establishes ties involving collaboration, the exchange of information and ideas as well as setting up projects with our overseas partners so that both students and teaching staff can widen their horizons as far as the international stage in their learning and consolidation as professionals in the tourism sector.

The student exchange programme Socrates-Erasmus reflects this philosophy and is one of the mainstays for the fulfilment of these aims. It is mainly intended for students, but teaching staff may also participate as visiting teachers to other universities, through the teachers' mobility programme.

Information of the Socrates-Erasmus Programme

The aim of the Socrates-Erasmus Programme is to facilitate university student exchange within the European Union.

Students register at their own university (in this case, at EUTDH), but follow study programmes at other universities without paying additional fees.

On completion of an overseas stay, credits corresponding to successfully completed courses are transferred to students' academic records at EUTDH.

Students wishing to participate in the Socrates-Erasmus programme should fulfil the following requirements:

Requirements (these may be subject to change):

  • To be enrolled at EUTDH during this academic year and to enroll for next year.
  • To have obtained a number of credits equivalent to the first academic year (61.5) on departure.
  • To have obtained a minimum average grade of 1(0=fail; 0,5 absent; 1=pass; 2=noteworthy; 3=excellent; 4=outstanding).
  • To possess a working knowledge of the host university's language for academic affairs.
  • To agree not to retake subjects abroad for which the student is enrolled at EUTDH.
  • To take a minimum of 10 credits per semester at the host university.
  • Students who have applied for financial assistance should not have received it previously.

Financial aspects of the grant

  • 120 euros per month is granted as well as an additional amount which varies according to the host country.
  • You will find more information about other mobility grants on UAB International Office.
  • For those stays which last the whole academic year, students can apply for residents' financial assistance as outlined in the MEC's financial assistance programme.
  • No course fees are to be paid at the host university (given that they are paid at EUTDH).
  • At some host universities, fees are paid for additional language courses.
  • Students should bear in mind that lodging is slightly more expensive than in the UAB Halls of Residence or in shared student accommodation. In many European countries, the cost of living is nearly double that of our country, which may occasion more living expenses.

Other Student Exchange Grants

The International Relations Dept also gives information about other student exchange grants that the "Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona" deals with at its own International Relations Office located at the "Rectorat" Building. They are the following:

The Inter-university Cooperation Programme (Former Intercampus)

These grants have been offered by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (AECI), since 1992. They are meant for students who are about to complete their courses and wish to spend a short time (normally two months) at one of the participating South American universities. Students normally stay during the summer and early autumn and are expected to collaborate in a project which is proposed by the host university. Alternatively, students may take several courses with a view to completing their education.

The registration period for these grants is usually around March or April. They tend to be very favourable: the stay, the trip as well as board and lodging are almost free.

The UAB Student Mobility Programme

The UAB Student Mobility programme enables first, second and third cycle UAB students to study in non-EU countries for one academic year. However, in some countries this agreement is only for one semester.

Financial assistance consists of exemption from course fees at the host university and a grant of 4,000 euros (aprox.)

Registration periods are twice a year: in April and October. Starting dates at host universities depend on each country's academic calendar; in some countries, courses start in February/March and in others in August or September.

To participate in this programme, you should be enrolled at the UAB when you apply as well as studying here the following year.

Current participating countries are as follows:

  • Argentina
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Canada Costa Rica
  • Ecuador
  • The United States
  • Mexico
  • Chile
  • China
